FDA Approved Aqueous Coating

VTech Communications, Inc. uses only the aqueous coating method for all packaging.

Aqueous coating is widely acknowledged as the most eco-friendly glossing method available, and is currently the only non-toxic ink (including gloss varnish) that has been approved by the FDA. Aqueous is a water-based coating that largely reduces the contamination of the environment from organic solvents. Furthermore, the product is safe, non-flammable and fully compliant with the International 4E Principles (i.e. economic viability, environmental protection, efficient, excellent performance). Consequently, it is considered the most environment-friendly printed material and has broad market prospects.

The most prominent features are non-toxic, non-polluting, and non-residual odor. Aqueous coating uses water as the solvent, reducing the discharge of VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). This in turn prevents environmental pollution and safeguards the health of exposed workers. Aqueous coating removes harmful solvents that pollute and contaminate packaging. The water-based coating also reduces the risk of fire that is often caused by the combination of static and flammable solvents. Furthermore, aqueous coating decreases the residual odor that is often left on the face of printed products.

  • Aqueous coating dries much faster than an oil-based varnish. This enables a faster thru-put of pieces through the bindery process, resulting in a highly efficient production line.
  • Aqueous costs less than traditional varnishes and is easier to use.
  • Aqueous is conveniently diluted and cleaned with water.
