VTech has chosen to add Zeomic, an inorganic antimicrobial agent, to the plastic used in their hotel phones. Zeomic uses silver and other ions to prevent the growth and migration of bacteria, mold and fungus. The ions have been bonded into the mineral structure creating a stable agent that maintains its effectiveness over the life of the products it is added to. This stability also promotes a high thermo resistance allowing Zeomic to be compounded into a variety of materials without altering its chemical structure.

The chart below illustrates the results of a test conducted using a VTech phone sample by the Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre Ltd.

Zeomic has been thoroughly tested by the Akita University and was found to be safe for use by humans. This result has been acknowledged and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Sanitation Foundation.
